What We Believe
At Santa Fe Guitar Academy, we believe that the best way to learn music is with one-on-one, private instruction. Each lesson is tailored individually, for the way the student learns best. A student's age, experience, personality, and learning style are taken into account. My students are ages 5 - adult! It's never "too late" to learn how to play music.
One-on-one attention
Students in private lessons are able to learn the type of music they personally are most interested in. I focus 100% of my attention on that one student to ensure that hand positioning, posture or the understanding of a particular concept are correct. If a student has a particular difficulty in one area, I can work on it without hampering the progress of a class of students and alternatively, if a student is excelling in one area, I can move on.
The Academy is equipped to offer music lessons for students of all ages and abilities, from beginners to very advanced students. I offer every style of music, from classical to pop.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT WILL I LEARN IN MUSIC LESSONS?
Every student is an individual, with personal musical needs and goals. I make it a priority to tailor how I teach and what I teach to your individual needs.
If you enroll here for lessons, I will ask you about your favorite type of music, and set goals to help accomplish whatever musical aspirations you have for yourself or your child. Together, we will develop a plan to achieve your goals! I love beginners, so even if you don't know where to begin, I can help!
WHAT STYLES OF MUSIC CAN I LEARN?
I teach all styles from classical, finger-style, jazz, electric, country, Latin, acoustic, Brazilian jazz, and bossa-nova. I combine the important fundamentals with the music YOU want to play.
ARE YOU QUALIFIED?
Yes - I am highly qualified, but most importantly I have a passion for teaching. I have performed in all the major venues in Santa Fe: the Lensic Theater, Santa Fe Opera, James A. Little Theater, GiG Performance Space, Saint Francis Auditorium, and more. I have been on faculty at New Mexico Highlands University and United World College and I am currently an artist-in-residence at Adams State University.
My students have won prizes at the Columbus State University Guitar Competition, Souza Lima Competition, Mishler Scholarship, Tucson Jazz Society Award, Santa Fe ProMusica Young Concert Artist, Colorado All State Jazz Band, New Mexico All State Guitar Ensemble, New Mexico All State Jazz Band, and Shaefer Guitar Competition. They also have been awarded scholarships at the Berklee College of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, Volterra Project in Italy, University of Northern Colorado, North Carolina School for the Arts, University of Arizona, Killington Music Festival, University of New Mexico, Santa Fe University of Art and Design, and New Mexico Highlands University.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN AN INSTRUMENT?
There is no set answer of how long it takes to learn an instrument. With regular practice, a basic level of playing can be accomplished in a few months. Most of my students take lessons on a long-term basis because they want to be constantly improving and they find the lessons enjoyable.
I DON’T HAVE ANY MUSICAL BACKGROUND OR ABILITY. CAN I STILL HELP MY CHILD PRACTICE?
Yes. Even if you don't have a musical background you can ask the teacher for advice on how to help your child practice. By simply monitoring that they are doing exercises a certain number of times per day the student will progress. Parents will occasionally sit in on their child's music lesson to get an idea of the proper way a song should sound or how the student should be positioning their hands.

GUITAR LESSONS
I teach rock, blues, metal, country and classical guitar lessons on electric and acoustic guitars. Beginner students can expect to work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading, and theory. I balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson you are challenged with a new technical or theory concept, but always end with something fun such as your favorite riff or song. I use a variety of guitar method books to accomplish this and encourage students to bring CDs or their iPod to their lesson to learn their favorite tunes. I can even help you with guitar repair: such as the set up of your guitar or replacing your strings!
